Martha Mattie Cunningham Dolby
Martha Mattie Cunningham was born in October of 1878 to Richard and Mary Cunningham in New London Indiana. The second of thirteen children and oldest daughter of the Cunningham family.
She and her Brother Joseph Alexander Cunningham were the first Black students to enroll in and graduate from Manchester College.
Martha graduated in 1903 with a dual degree in Bible and English
Joseph graduated in 1906 with a degree in Elocution (Speech Therapy)
She married Wiley Newton Dolby on August 14, 1907 and they had six children in 10 years. Wiley Newtom Dolby, a licensed engineer, was employed by Wilberforce College.
Martha was the first women installed as a minister in the Church of the Brethren and served as pastor of the Church of God meeting house in Urban, IL for the last 20 years of her life.
She died in 1956 in Urbana, Ohio, at the age of 78, and was buried there.
